At Ebonheart Kennel, boarding is about more than providing a place for your dog to stay.

Nestled in Hampton, Iowa, our small, independently owned, home-based boarding program offers a more personal alternative to large commercial kennels.

Every dog arrives with a different personality, routine, and set of needs. Some are outgoing companions who enjoy social interaction, while others appreciate a quieter environment and a little more personal space. Our approach recognizes those differences.

With a limited-scale operation and individualized attention, we strive to provide an environment where dogs can settle in comfortably while their owners are away.

Boarding at Ebonheart is designed around consistent routines, attentive supervision, affection, and a comfortable environment where dogs are cared for like family.

Whether your companion is visiting for a weekend or an extended stay, our goal is to provide dependable, thoughtful care with the familiarity and hospitality of a small private establishment.

Good care begins with understanding the individual dog.

Rather than expecting every guest to fit the same routine, we consider temperament, social preferences, comfort, and appropriate activity when planning each dog’s stay.

Our small-scale approach allows us to become familiar with the dogs entrusted to our care and to provide a boarding experience that feels more personal than a traditional high-volume facility.

Individualized attention: Every guest is an individual. We consider each dog’s personality, comfort level, and needs rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach.
Appropriate socialization: Dogs who are comfortable and compatible with others may enjoy supervised social opportunities. Dogs who prefer their own space are not required to participate in group interactions.
Rest and routine: A comfortable boarding experience includes appropriate rest, regular care, and a predictable routine. Not every moment needs to be filled with activity.
Home-based atmosphere: Our boarding program operates from a residential property rather than a large commercial complex. Suitable guests may enjoy supervised household access, depending on the dog, compatibility, safety, and circumstances. Household access is not unrestricted, and not every guest sleeps in the main house.
Experienced handling: Ebonheart Kennel’s background in dog training informs our approach to canine behavior, communication, and individual management.

Standard boarding

$30 per dog, per day

Holiday boarding

$40 per dog, per day

Additional dog discount

$5 off the daily rate for an additional dog from the same household when sharing accommodations. This applies only when the dogs can safely and appropriately share. Dogs needing separate accommodations do not receive this discount.

Reservations are paid at booking. Please wait for confirmation of availability, arrangements, and the amount due before sending payment. Holiday rates apply during designated holiday periods.

Arrivals & departures

Visiting Hours

Monday–Friday: 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Saturday–Sunday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Drop-off and pickup arrangements should be coordinated through the booking process. These customer hours are for arranged visits, rather than unscheduled drop-ins, and are distinct from the care dogs receive during their stay.

Comfort, compatibility & care

Your Dog’s Well-Being Matters

Every guest’s health, comfort, and safety are important considerations at Ebonheart Kennel. We require appropriate vaccination records and information about each dog’s health, temperament, and care needs before accepting a reservation.

Interactions are managed according to compatibility and safety rather than assuming every guest should participate in group activities. Our goal is an environment that respects both the individual dog and the well-being of the other animals in our care.

Boarding & training

Make Their Stay Even More Productive

For families interested in more than traditional boarding, Ebonheart Kennel also offers professional dog training. Boarding can provide an opportunity to reinforce existing skills or work toward training goals through an appropriate training program.

Professional training is not automatically included in standard boarding. Training services and boarding accommodations are billed according to the selected services and applicable program terms.

Eligible Unlimited Training memberships include complimentary Board & Train upgrades on paid boarding stays, generally providing 30–60 minutes of dedicated training per day. Regular boarding charges still apply separately. Memberships are subject to availability.

For Venmo payments marked “Goods and Services,” Ebonheart requires a 4% increase to the agreed amount to cover payment processing costs deducted before we receive your payment. Multiply your agreed amount by 1.04: for example, $100 becomes $104.
